Vinod Khosla, a forerunner in climate-tech investments
According to Vinod Khosla, the Ex-cofounder of Sun Microsystems, in an interview with Alison van Diggelen for Fresh Dialogues, he began seeking novel, different, and significant investments in 2000, focusing on the next development in technology. At that time, it struck him that climate-tech was one of those sectors.
During the dotcom bubble in 2000, when the stock market was bullish on IT, he thought the sector he would bet on would be climate technology.
Therefore, in 2001, he invested in Bloom Technology, his first climate-tech company investment. He added that the company was well-funded, performing well, and had been getting extremely good valuations in the stock market.
Khosla adds that he is very worried about global warming, but at the same time, it has created for him a money-making opportunity.
When asked about his involvement with numerous climate-tech entrepreneurs, he replies that he is not a venture capitalist but is only providing assistance.
Khosla adds that he was never interested in biofuels, and instead, it was always cellulosic fuels for the obvious reasons.
In the end, he adds that he is very optimistic about clean energy doing extremely well in the future.
