Sea level rise: Everything you need to know
According to the World Economic Forum, the lives of 410 million people could be in danger owing to growing sea levels by 2100. It also adds that because of the climate crisis, sea levels have risen globally by over 10 cm during the period 1993–2024.
The Global Risks Report 2024, released by the World Economic Forum, determined that sea levels were growing owing to the breakup of ice sheets.
NASA, the US Space Agency, and other US government organizations issued a warning in 2022 that levels along the coastlines of countries across the world would increase by around 25 cm to 30 cm by the year 2050.
Beginning in 1880, sea levels globally have increased by 21 cm. In 2023, India, China, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands were identified by the United Nations (UN) as being in peril due to growing sea levels, with a population of 900 million who live in coastal areas being in grave danger.
