Way to cut carbon emissions to build your house
According to the researchers at Leiden University, building materials, which are the cause of massive carbon emissions, are growing rapidly.
The year 2018 saw the materials produced for the building sector account for 11% of GHG emissions globally.
About 50% of brick, concrete, and steel worldwide was being used by the building sector alone.
As per the above study, emissions from these materials are growing exponentially.
The researchers arrived at seven ways to reduce their emissions, which include living in smaller houses, using lighter materials, and utilizing timber instead of concrete.
These harmful emissions could be reduced by 33% if homes occupied by people saw their floor area reduced by 20% per person.
The researchers opined that if some emerging technologies, including CarbonCure, were used, it would benefit the planet.
Furthermore, reusing materials or using low-carbon materials would also assist, as it would help the world at large when dependency on existing materials decreases.
