What’s your score? You are climate-friendly if you are doing at least 9 of the 17 below.
Your carbon footprint is the volume of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, fluorinated gases, nitrous oxide, and methane, among others, that you generate while you live.
The Deep Decarbonization Pathways Project, a concerted effort by sixteen countries that emit high GHGs, underlines certain steps all the planet’s inhabitants can follow to contain the global temperature rise partially.
According to the US EPA’s carbon footprint calculator, these steps will help you save enormous amounts of carbon emissions and money.
The steps you need to follow to reduce your carbon footprint are as follows:
· Consume mostly veggies, beans, fruits, and grains.
· On the other hand, reduce consumption of meat and dairy, which alone contribute 14.5% of the manmade GHGs to the planet.
. Opt for seasonal organic and local foods.
· Buy foodstuffs in bulk whenever possible by using your reusable container.
· Cut your food waste, stop the excess, and reuse leftovers.
· Compost your food leftovers when possible.
· Avoid fast fashion buys, which mostly end up in landfills.
· Choose recycled clothing.
· Wash your clothes in cold water to reduce up to 500 pounds of CO2 annually.
· Buy fewer and recycled items whenever possible.
· Use reusable bags when shopping.
· Use a laptop instead of a desktop.
· Use energy-efficient electrical appliances, such as LED lamps.
· Drive less and opt for public transport.
· Take good care of your vehicle.
· If possible, use electric vehicles with solar power.
· Finally, invest in direct projects to offset carbon, climate-tech startups, and scaleup companies
